My friends often send me links to articles, videos and comics that interest me. I’ve created a list here to share with readers as well.
Fat, Ugly, or Slutty – As a bit of a gamer girl, I can definitely relate to how video game culture is often hostile to women. The creators of Fat, Ugly or Slutty have provided a place for people to remember and laugh at the most ridiculous sexist insults that online video gamers throw at them. I really like this site! It’s like a HOLLA BACK for gamers.
Does female sexuality need fixing? This article discusses some of the problems with female sexual dysfunction. Mostly it is based on a male-centric view of sexuality.
Social Media and the End of Gender – This TED talk looks at how social media has changed advertising to be less sexist. I still disagree a bit because I still get 2-3 engagement ring ads a day on facebook, even though every single one is marked as “offensive”. It seems to me, at least on facebook, that ads are still sold to demographics and not exactly by interest. I think the advertising industry still has a lot to learn.
How I Learned What Sex Is – a collection of humorous anecdotes about the misconceptions that come with learning about sex for the first time.
Saving Our Daughter from the Princess Army – The mother was frustrated when her daughter (who used to love running around in overalls and playing with trains) entered preschool and was suddenly fascinated with princess culture.
Thanks to all of you who sent me these links – I didn’t thank you by name because I was worried you wouldn’t want me to use them publicly. Nonetheless, I love receiving links.
See you soon.
